Pauline Oliveros, ‘Deep Listening’ founder and internationally celebrated Kingston composer, dies at 84

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Pauline Oliveros, the internationally celebrated multi-instrumentalist, avant-garde composer, founder of the concept of 'Deep Listening' and a longtime city resident, died on Thursday. She was 84.

She was a pioneer in electronic music and a leader in contemporary music with a broad range of expertise, including composing, performance and teaching.

Ulster Town Board takes environmental review role for ShopRite expansion plan

TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. >> The Town Board has assumed environmental oversight for the proposed, 11,864-square-foot expansion of ShopRite Supermarket at 100 Massa Lane and 38,373 square feet of new retail space on two adjacent parcels.

The designation of lead agency was approved by the board without discussion during a meeting last week.

Rhinebeck residents to vote of $12 million school plan on Dec. 6

The polls will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bulkeley Middle School, 45 North Park Road.

Town of Ulster grants special use permit to Romeo Kia for Lake Katrine dealership

TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. >> Town Board members have granted a special use permit to Romeo Kia to open a car dealership at 1905 Ulster Ave. in Lake Katrine, but site plan approval is still required.

The permit was approved following a public hearing last week, with officials noting Romeo Kia needed the authorization because the property in is in the Office Manufacturing District and the Highway Commercial District.
